{"id":2010,"date":"2015-04-23T10:34:09","date_gmt":"2015-04-23T18:34:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.chrisrivard.com\/?p=2010"},"modified":"2015-04-23T10:34:09","modified_gmt":"2015-04-23T18:34:09","slug":"make-or-break","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.chrisrivard.com\/blog\/make-or-break\/","title":{"rendered":"Make or break"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I kept thinking to myself going into Yakima skyline that &#8220;this might be the one that breaks\u00a0me.&#8221; And I realized when the moment came to &#8220;be broken&#8221; &#8211; I realized that I had a choice. For some reason I thought it was something that was going to &#8220;happen to me.&#8221; And maybe in some cases &#8211; you\u00a0can degrade slowly over time and that results in being broken, but I think that&#8217;s the rare case.<\/p>\n<p>I think more often what happens is that the question arises, &#8220;do you want to be broken?&#8221; And you can choose. Whether you think you can or think you can&#8217;t, you&#8217;re right!<\/p>\n<p>When trying to describe a long race &#8211; I always come back to the metaphor or being &#8220;cored out&#8221; from the inside. You start with fresh legs and a glycogen packed liver&#8230; and the miles and time slowly start to take layers of you\u00a0from the inside &#8211; and when you&#8217;re done all that&#8217;s left is a shell &#8211; just a container.\u00a0But wow it&#8217;s the most pure you that\u00a0exists! One thing I&#8217;ve noticed is that the whites of my eyes are the most clear white after I&#8217;ve been cored.<\/p>\n<p>Pure white.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.chrisrivard.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/59423224-IMG_0827.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-2013\" src=\"http:\/\/www.chrisrivard.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/59423224-IMG_0827-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"59423224-IMG_0827\" width=\"604\" height=\"403\" \/><\/a><em>About 12 miles in. Can&#8217;t stop to put the poles away.
