{"id":1150,"date":"2014-05-31T21:53:26","date_gmt":"2014-06-01T05:53:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.chrisrivard.com\/?p=1150"},"modified":"2014-05-31T21:53:26","modified_gmt":"2014-06-01T05:53:26","slug":"sunny-crossing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.chrisrivard.com\/blog\/sunny-crossing\/","title":{"rendered":"Sunny Crossing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This past weekend we painted\u00a0Sunny Crossing in our neighborhood (Sunnyside). \u00a0In conjunction with the <a href=\"http:\/\/vbc.cityrepair.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Village Building Convergence<\/a>\u00a0we had a great turnout and painted and street partied all day long.<\/p>\n<p>[wonderplugin_carousel id=&#8221;1&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p>Music, parades, lots of food (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/two-brothers-cafe-and-grill-portland\" target=\"_blank\">2 Brothers Cafe<\/a>\u00a0donated ~20 full meals\u00a0of Cevapi). The kids had a great time and I was reminded again how special\u00a0it is living in Portland.<\/p>\n<p>We have plans to add a bicycle repair station and a little library. I&#8217;m on the hook to design and build both, but I&#8217;m not sure of a design &#8211; specifically for the bike repair station. I have a few sketches and some requirements (small shelter\u00a0to protect users from the rain, etc.). We didn&#8217;t finalize permits by last weekend, so we&#8217;ll need to continue later into the summer. I&#8217;d also like to build in a few features to make the intersection a little more sticky, e.g. allow pedestrians and cyclists to linger.<\/p>\n<p>I had no idea that people came from around the globe to participate in the VBC events in Portland.
